SpecialisedHGV has the largest network of training centres in the UK.
Our network ensures that 95% of the UK population is never more that one hour away from one of our centres.
Bristol was built on a bustling port that the saw tonnes of goods moving into and out of the country. And although the local port is no longer the largest economic contributor in the region, Bristol still relies heavily on the logistics industry to support automotive imports, aerospace manufacturing, and defence manufacturing. All of the support industries that keep the main industries going also need a reliable logistics sector as well.
It would stand to reason that an area like Bristol would have a very strong logistics sector due to so much economic activity. Well, it does. On any given day, drivers can encounter thousands of HGVs traversing local roads with consumer goods and manufacturing supplies on board. And behind the wheel of every one of those vehicles is a trained and licenced driver with a good paying job. We can help you get one of those jobs by way of our HGV training in Bristol.
The UK is currently in the midst of severe driver shortage that only looks to get worse in the coming years. Both HGV and PCV operators need tens of thousands of additional drivers just to keep up with the current pace. They will need more in the future to account for an expanding economy and a wave of future retirements that will begin to occur within the next 5 to 10 years. That makes now a great time to get your commercial driving licence and apply for that first job.
Why become a professional HGV or PCV driver? Because it is a career that offers:
We offer HGV training in Bristol that is comprehensive and effective. All of the students who pass through our doors learn all of the knowledge they need to be safe and successful drivers. They also learn the driving skills required for the professional driving career. The training we provide can be broken down into three basic categories:
As you can see, our HGV training in Bristol is very heavily weighted toward preparing students to take and pass the necessary tests. This is not without reason. The government uses the testing procedures to verify that potential drivers have the skills and knowledge to be safe and proficient. If test scores are a measure of whether or not the driver should get a licence, does it not make sense to provide training that guarantees passing scores? Of course it does.
Having said that, our training goes above and beyond just test preparation. What our students learn during their training programmes also prepares them for lifelong careers. They will continually refer back to the training they received at our facility for as long as they keep working.
The average LGV pass rate nationwide is about 55%. By contrast, the students in all of our training programmes pass their tests at a rate of 90% or better. We achieve this consistently high first-time pass rate by utilising a training approach that takes advantage of the way people typically learn. Our training approach allows us to succeed where others fail.
What is our training approach? It is one that relies on presenting information in short, concentrated segments that enable students to learn one concept at a time in quick succession. We like to describe this as a ‘building block’ learning process. It is the process we all use naturally to learn the skills we need for daily life. We learn and master one concept, then move on to the next in gradual progression.
We are also careful to apply this training approach at a fast and intense pace. We believe doing so takes advantage of short-term memory for building block learning. For example, a student might learn one concept about proper load-balancing before moving on to the next topic of load securement. He or she must remember the first concept only for a short amount of time before beginning the next. But because the next topic is tied directly to the first, his or her short-term memory is reinforced and he or she permanently retains the information.
You can think of our training in terms of building a house out of bricks. It only takes a short amount of time to lay a single brick. And once that single brick is laid, you can immediately move on to the next without having to give any more attention to it. That brick will remain functional throughout the lifetime of the building because it works in concert with all of the other bricks to provide a stable and firm structure.
Our fast-paced and intense learning approach follows the same principle. By imparting information and skills in short bursts, our students are able to learn, comprehend, apply, and retain the information. Recall at test time is not a problem as a result.
